A Savannah police officer and his wife were fatally stabbed Monday morning on Wilmington Island. The woman’s teen brother has been charged with murder, officials said.
Michael Barber, 16, will be tried as an adult, Savannah Morning News reported.
The two slain were Luis Molina, 53, and Akia Molina, 28, according to multiple media reports, including WJCL.
Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley said in a news conference that Luis Molina was a Savannah police officer.
Akia Molina was found dead at the couple’s residence, and her husband was found next door, the police chief said.
“We believe that the male subject left his home and went next door seeking assistance,” Hadley said in a news conference before the victims were identified.
The teenager is believed to be the brother of Akia Molina and had been living with the couple, Hadley said. He was charged with two felony counts of murder.
Barber is a student in the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, according to WTOC.
The investigation was taking place in Palmetto Bay Cove, according to WSAV, which reported that police were called to the home about 6:30 a.m.
