A Dale woman said her children came home late on the night of July 4 to find a hole in the living room roof.
The woman told a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office deputy she heard something 'drop' between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was in her bedroom, but she didn't venture into the living room to investigate, according to the deputy's report.
She'd earlier heard fireworks.
But her kids later discovered the hole — and a rifle bullet on the floor.

"The bullet appeared to be a rifle caliber," the report said. "From looking at where the hole was in the ceiling it appeared that it could have been caused with someone firing up in the air (at a distance) and the bullet coming down on the roof."
The damage was estimated at $200, according to the report.
The deputy told the woman it did not appear her house had been intentionally targeted.
