Police find man that fled from vehicle crash in Okatie area
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office has located a man they say abandoned a stolen car earlier in the day moments after a traffic accident.
Darius Ayise, 17, of Beaufort is in custody, a release states. He has been charged with Fleeing to Evade Arrest. Additional charges are being considered.
Law enforcement were focusing a search with K-9 units in the woods between Callawassie Drive and Village Circle.
Deputies received a report that Ayise was spotted outside a residence on North Okatie Highway, the release states. Within minutes deputies were at the house and apprehended Ayise.
The car crash happened around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Callawassie Drive and Snake Road in Okatie, an earlier release said.
The car involved in the accident was stolen in Beaufort, Sheriff's Office Capt. Bob Bromage said. Bromage said there was a firearm in the vehicle that is now missing.
Alerts throughout the day from the sheriff's office warned that he could be armed and dangerous. No weapon was found on him when apprehended.
Residents of the Callawassie area spotted the man late in the afternoon.
A red backpack owned by the Ayise was discovered shortly before 5:25 p.m. by K-9 dogs. Deputies saw the him with backpack earlier in the morning.
