Police: He knocked down her door, dragged her by the hair, hit her at Hilton Head home

A Hilton Head Island woman reported told deputies Saturday that her ex-boyfriend knocked down her door, dragged her by the hair and punched her repeatedly, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

The incident was reported around 1:30 a.m. at a residence in Hilton Head Gardens on Southwood Park Drive. The victim said her ex was at her residence because he did not have a place to stay and she felt sorry for him. When he arrived he appeared drunk, the victim said. He left to meet with friends and returned “even more intoxicated.” He was also in possession of “multiple beers,” the report said. The woman told him to leave. He did so, but returned five minutes late, the report said.

The man allegedly kicked in the locked door, grabbed the woman by the hair and began to drag her out of a bed. The woman was able to get on her feet and tried to run, but the man blocked her exit.

“(The man) grabbed (the woman) by the hair again and began punching her,” the report said. He left before deputies arrived.

The woman declined medical attention.

Deputies were unable to find the man in the area, and he didn’t answer his phone. A search of the man’s history revealed he had prior convictions for domestic violence and burglary.

A deputy obtained warrants charging the man with first-degree burglary, second-degree domestic violence and trespassing. No arrest was listed in the report.
