Police: Speeding Bluffton driver cried when questioned. That’s when they found this.
A Bluffton man was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and reckless driving Wednesday afternoon after he was pulled over for speeding and cried before police found more three pounds of weed in his car, according to a Bluffton Police Department report.
Michael McGuire, 21, was pulled over around 1:30 p.m. in the area of Bluffton Parkway and Masters Way after an officer clocked him going 78 mph in a 35 mph zone. When the officer walked up to McGuire’s vehicle, he could smell marijuana, the report says.
McGuire told the officer he was speeding because he was following two men and wanted to “get around them,” the report said.
After several attempts to get McGuire to step out of the car, he did so. Officers then placed him under arrest on the reckless driving charge. When asked if there were any weapons or drugs in his vehicle, McGuire allegedly “began to cry and yell, and refused to answer the question,” one officer wrote.
Officers then found an envelope with $600 in cash in McGuire’s back pocket. Another $580 was found in his front pocket. Inside the vehicle, they found 3.32 pounds of marijuana in several vacuum bags inside a plastic case.
McGuire was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center. According to detention center records, he was released Thursday morning.
