Bluffton woman grabs a fireplace poker, yells ‘get out’ at home invader
A Bluffton woman armed herself with a fireplace poker and hid in her bedroom early Monday morning after she saw a light shining in her window and heard someone inside her home.
The break in was reported around 4:30 a.m. at a Myrtle Island Road residence, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
The victim told deputies she awoke to see a light shining in the window. Then she heard movement inside the house. The woman yelled “get out” and grabbed a fire poker before calling 911.
A deputy who searched the home reported that the windows and doors were secured and found no evidence of a break in other than a scraper tool found outside of a door that did not belong to the victim.
The woman said her wallet was gone from her purse. The wallet contained $90, a credit card and several identification cards. Two drawers had also been opened, she told deputies.
Deputies took the scrapper tool and DNA evidence from the scene.
No arrests were listed in the report.
