Okatie man comes home from hog hunting. Awakens to find his guns gone

An Okatie resident reported the theft of guns worth $2,200 Friday after several vehicles were broken into in the area.

The theft happened between 8 p.m. Jan. 18 and the following morning, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

The victim said neighbors called him to say their vehicles had been broken into and asked him to check his. When he did, he found two Remington and Browning shotguns were missing along with a Savage Model 17 rifle and a Walther P22 pistol.

The two shotguns and rifle had been hidden under the rear seat. The pistol was in the center console of the vehicle prior to being taken, the report said.

The victim said he had gone hog hunting Jan. 18 and that when he returned home, didn’t lock his truck or take the firearms inside.

Deputies processed the man’s vehicle and two others that appeared to have been broken into for DNA evidence.

No arrests were listed in the report.
