‘I ain’t gonna lie. I choked her.’ Man arrested after Bluffton hotel domestic incident

A man was charged with third-degree domestic violence Sunday after he told investigators he choked his fiancee at a Bluffton extended stay hotel.

Deputies were called to the Suburban Extended Stay off Fording Island Road around 4 p.m. after a report of a fight that involved a possibly armed man, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

When deputies arrived, they went to the room where the report originated and heard shouting inside. Fearing the man might be armed, deputies ordered him out of the room and onto the ground. The man was not armed, the report said.

Investigators then spoke with the female victim who said she and her fiance were arguing. It turned physical when the man jumped over a bed and “began choking her, knocking her to the ground,” the report said.

The woman said she kicked the man in the face in self defense, cutting his eye. She was then able to break free and run out of the room to call 911.

When deputies spoke to the man, he said the two were arguing. He said he lost his temper.

“I ain’t gonna lie. I choked her,” the man allegedly said to deputies.

The man refused EMS treatment for the cut above his eye and was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
