Rapidly spreading fire forces Ridgeland family from their home Saturday afternoon

A home on Great Swamp Road in Ridgeland caught fire Saturday afternoon.

The Ridgeland Fire Department responded to the fire, arriving to find the rear of the home burning. A brush fire was also quickly spreading from the home, putting other nearby structures at risk, a Ridgeland Fire Department release said.

A family was in the home at the time of the fire, but were able to get out uninjured, the release said. However, they were displaced by the fire.

The family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, the release said.

The fire’s cause is still being determined.
