There’s a lot of money (U.S. and Mexican) in this wallet found on a Hilton Head beach

There’s no telling what you’ll find when you walk on the beach — a rare shell, a shark tooth, a wallet more than $1,000 in it.

And that’s not counting the Mexican currency.

Around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, near Beach Marker 88 on Hilton Head Island, a man found a wallet with $1,153, a Mexican identification card and 650 pesos, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. The value of 650 pesos is just under $35, according to online currency exchange-rate sites.

After he got back to his residence in Palmetto Dunes, the man called the Sheriff’s Office, which took possession of the items.

A Sheriff’s deputy ran the name on the ID card through a computer system, but there was no match. The deputy then called the county dispatch office to check for reports of the missing wallet — there were none.

For now, the wallet and currency are in evidence storage, according to the report.

Beach Marker 88 is between Dunes House and and Hilton Head Resort, according to Shore Beach Service’s website.
