This Bluffton fight featured a bowl of soup, spilled milk and an ax handle to the head
A Bluffton man was arrested for third degree assault and battery after getting in a scuffle with his roommate and allegedly hitting him in the head with an ax handle.
The incident happened close to midnight Monday and started in the kitchen of a condo in The Gatherings off Tabby Trail in Bluffton.
According to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report, the man was eating soup in the kitchen when his roommate — who wanted to evict him — knocked the bowl out of his hands, claiming he was eating food that wasn’t his.
In retaliation, apparently, the man then dumped two gallons of his roommate’s milk out, according to the report — “one in the sink and one all over (his roommate’s) counter and soup he was cooking.”
A fight ensued and, according to his roommate’s complaint in the report, the man retrieved an ax handle and allegedly hit his roommate in the head with it — three times.
The man disputed doing so, saying that his roommate fell in the kitchen during the fight and hit his head.
The man’s girlfriend, staying that night in his room, apparently slept through the incident.
Paramedics evaluated the roommate, who had a minor head injury and was not transported to the hospital.
The deputy took the ax handle as evidence. There was a small amount of blood on it, he noted in the report, and the roommate’s head wound “was more consistent with being struck with the handle as opposed to hitting his head when he fell.”
The alleged assailant was arrested, transported to Beaufort County Detention Center and issued a ticket and February court date.
