She forgot this at a Hilton Head Marriott — the Sheriff’s Office had to retrieve it

It was, likely, one of the last things housekeepers cleaning Room 417 at the Hilton Head Island Marriott Resort and Spa expected to find.

On Monday, a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the Palmetto Dunes hotel after housekeeping staff reported they’d found a weapon.

A pink weapon, according to the Sheriff’s Office report.

It was a handgun, a Beretta 9mm Compact — “pink in color” — with a magazine that contained eight rounds.

The deputy took possession of the weapon and ammunition and worked with resort staff to figure out who’d last stayed in the room.

The deputy contacted the room’s last occupant and told her he’d taken custody of the gun. He gave her instructions on how to retrieve it when she next visited Beaufort County.

She is a North Carolina resident, according to the report, and told the deputy she’d “left the room in a hurry ... .”

The deputy looked up the gun’s serial number through the National Crime Information Center database, and the weapon came back clean.
