A Colleton County man from Round O was pleaded guilty to a string of burglaries and other thefts on Thursday, according to a 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office news release.

Samuel Lane Campbell, 33, was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to seven counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, grand larceny, safecracking and accessory after the fact, according to the release.

“This defendant stole his way through this county, causing lots of damage along the way,” Assistant Solicitor Ceth Utsey said. “Many people were left with heartaches and headaches due to Mr. Campbell and his indiscriminate stealing.”

Among other things, Campbell reportedly stole electronics, heaters, a propane grill, a hunting bow, and a wood chipper after he broke into several campers parked at a Cottageville hunt club, according to the Solicitor’s Office release. Campbell also stole a secured cooler worth an estimated $285 from the bed of a pickup truck parked at a Walterboro home and used a stolen cutting torch to open a safe.

Campbell’s criminal record includes convictions for DUI in 2002, twice driving with a suspended license in 2005, resisting arrest and receiving stolen goods in 2012, grand larceny and possession of methamphetamine in 2014, failure to stop for a blue light and receiving stolen goods in 2016, according to the Solicitor’s Office.
