Investigation follows after Hilton Head student hit by vehicle, airlifted to Savannah

A 13-year-old student hit by a vehicle during end-of-day school pick-up on the Hilton Head Island school campus was airlifted to Savannah for medical attention Thursday afternoon.

The student was in a crosswalk when she was struck by a 2000 Isuzu SUV that was turning left from Wilborn Road onto School Road around 4 p.m., according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern around 7:30 p.m. No charges or citations have been filed yet and the incident in still under investigation, Southern said.

The student was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah after the crash. Information on the teenager’s injuries and condition were not available Thursday night.

The student is a female 7th-grader at Hilton Head Middle School, Beaufort County School District spokesman Jim Foster said. The middle and high schools dismiss class at 3:45 p.m.
