Still waiting on your package to arrive to the Lowcountry? Watch out for these emails
As Christmas approaches, people are anxiously awaiting their holiday packages, and a new email scam is going around trying to take advantage of that anticipation, a press release from FedEx says.
People are receiving emails purporting to be from the package carrier with the subject line "FedEx: Delivery Problems Notification." They inform recipients that a package sent to them can not currently be delivered, and tell them to click a link within the email to remedy the issue, FedEx says.
Instead, that link takes people to a website that will infect their computer, according to the release.
The malicious links can connect to websites across the globe, according to FedEx, some which look like the official FedEx site and some which don’t.
The package carrier says in their release that they do not send unsolicited emails looking for information about packages, invoices, account numbers, passwords or personal information.
If you receive such an email, FedEx advises to not click on any links. Instead, delete it or forward it to abuse@fedex.com.
