Bluffton woman charged after allegedly attacking husband in front of children

A Bluffton woman was charged with second-degree domestic violence early Sunday morning after she allegedly got drunk and attacked her husband in front of their children.

The incident was reported on Goethe Road and happened around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, according to a Bluffton Police Department report.

The woman’s husband told an officer that he recently learned that his wife had been cheating on him with another man, which brought on some “marital problems,” the report said.

The man said his wife had been drinking all night and that when he came home, he took her phone to look through it.

At that point, the woman allegedly attacked the man in an effort to get her phone back by scratching his arm and torso. She also tore his shirt, the report said.

The couple’s three children were at the home when the alleged assault happened. One of the children decided to sleep in a vehicle in order to get out of the house.

The officer wrote in the report that there were two empty liquor bottles in the kitchen of the home and that the woman’s eyes were “glossy” and that it was “very clear” that she was intoxicated. The woman told the officer that she drank both bottles on her own, the report said.

She was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
