Man allegedly had no reason for sitting next to moped on its side in middle of Hilton Head parking lot
While patrolling the Coligny area Thursday night, a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputy spotted a man sitting next to a moped on its side with its lights on in the middle of a parking lot for an abandoned building on Lagoon Road, a police report states.
The deputy decided to approach the man, who stood and ran from the deputy as he approached, it says.
A short foot pursuit followed, the report states. It says the man stopped once the deputy identified himself.
When asked if he had crashed his moped, the man said no, the report states. It states the man did offer a reason for sitting in the parking lot.
The report also says the man didn’t realize it was an officer pulling into the lot. He said he ran because he saw headlights that he thought might hit him.
The man smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking earlier in the night in the Coligny area, the report states. It states he was arrested for disorderly conduct.
