Man finds grenade in Bluffton attic

A Bluffton man called Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Thursday saying he found a grenade in the attic of his home on Burnt Church Road in Bluffton, according to police reports.

The man said he was cleaning out when he came across what he believed was a “CS” gas grenade in a crate, the report states. He advised police it was likely about 40 years old from when he served in the Marine Corps.

Deputies contacted the bomb squad for the grenade, which the man said was now sitting in the passenger side of his truck. A captain with the bomb squad inspected the grenade and advised he believed it was a gas grenade which could contain deadly gas.

The bomb squad took charge over the grenade, the report states.
