Afternoon armed robbery reported at Jasper County dollar store

A Jasper County Dollar General in Levy was the scene of an armed robbery Thursday afternoon, according to a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Two young black males entered the South Okatie Highway store around 1 p.m. and made the store employees hand over the cash from the registers, according to the release. The men were both wearing hooded sweatshirts that were pulled tightly over their faces. One was armed with a handgun. No further description of the suspects was made available.

The males ran from the store to a white, standard-cab, short-bed Toyota pickup driven by a third black male, according to the release. Witnesses told deputies they saw the vehicle turn south on Okatie Highway, going toward Savannah.
