Two teens charged following discovery of illegal drugs, firearms in Hilton Head apartment

Two Hilton Head Island teenagers face multiple charges after a Tuesday morning search warrant at an apartment on the island revealed cocaine, marijuana, Xanax pills and two firearms.

Investigators of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants for the arrest of Juan Romero, 19, after an investigation that led deputies to believe he had been selling illegal drugs over the past three months, according to a news release.

Early Tuesday morning, investigators served a search warrant at Romero’s home at 155 Dillon Road, Apt. 1927.

Once inside, deputies found Romero and 17-year-old Ana Toscano-Ibanez.

During the search, investigators also found a trafficking amount of cocaine, distribution amounts of both marijuana and Xanax pills, and a pistol and shotgun, the release said.

Romero and Toscano-Ibanez were taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

Romero was charged with five counts of sale and distribution of cocaine, five counts of sale and distribution of cocaine within half a mile of a school, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute Xanax, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, driving under suspension, and three Town of Hilton Head Municipal Court bench warrants.

Toscano-Ibanez was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute Xanax, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

According to detention center records, Toscano-Ibanez has been placed on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

Romero was assigned a bond of $261,245 and, as of Wednesday afternoon, remained in custody at the jail.

Toscano-Ibanez also remained in custody with a bond of $80,000.
