After 28 years, a 19-year-old woman's death on Hilton Head Island remains unsolved

Jennifer Olson's body was found by a jogger in the surf of the beach near the Westin Resort on Hilton Head Island on July 30, 1989, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

An investigation revealed the young woman was killed in the early morning and investigators believe she suffered a sexual assault just before her death, according to the release. Specific details about her death are still held back by law enforcement as the investigation has not ended.

Olson was on a trip with her family to an insurance convention at the Westin when she was killed, according to the release. One of the many people she met on the trip and with whom she was allegedly seen around 3 a.m. on the morning of her death was convicted of "savagely murdering his girlfriend" a few years later in another state. He remains a person of interest in this case while serving a life sentence for the other woman's death, but he denies any involvement in Olson's death.
