What was a drunken, shirtless man doing on a stranger’s Hilton Head patio?
An Ohio man described by deputies as “grossly intoxicated” was arrested early Thursday morning after unsuccessfully trying to open the patio door at a stranger’s Hilton Head Island home, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report released Friday.
The man, who told police he was in town for a wedding, was “wearing only mesh-style exercise shorts, with no shirt or shoes,” according to the report. He also had several small scratches “all over” the front and back of his torso.
He was carrying no wallet, identification or cell phone, the report said.
The man — who reportedly could not remember how he had gotten there — told deputies he tried to enter the home near Burkes Beach “because he thought he recognized his friend sleeping on the couch and wanted to scare him,” according to the report.
He was arrested for public disorderly conduct and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
