Hilton Head club battered by bricks faces serious repair bill
An alarm alerted a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputy to what appeared to be an attempted break in at a Hilton Head Island club early Sunday morning when the deputy found glass doors that had been shattered by a brick.
The incident was reported at the Yana Club on Mathews Drive around 4:20 a.m. when a deputy responded to an activated alarm, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.
The deputy found both of the front doors at the building had been shattered and noticed “numerous” bricks laying in front of the door and another that went through a front window.
The deputy tried to open the doors, but they were still locked.
When someone on the club’s board arrived with a key, the board member said the bricks looked similar to some they had stacked around the back side of the building by a storage shed and added that he had no clue who would have caused the damage.
The club did not have security cameras at the time of the incident, but the board member told the deputy that they would “probably be getting some after this,” the report said.
The doors were valued at around $5,000.
