She returned to her Hilton Head hotel room to find $25,000 in jewelry missing
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of more than $25,000 in jewelry from a Hilton Head Island hotel room after a guest said she returned to her room to find the items missing, along with two credit cards.
The theft was reported Tuesday, but the woman said it happened sometime between 7:30 a.m. Monday and 11:08 a.m. Tuesday at the Marriott Resort and Spa in Palmetto Dunes, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.
The woman told a deputy she stored the items in a bag within a nightstand before she realized they were gone.
The items included a Patek Phelippe watch valued at $25,000, a set of silver Kendra Scott hoop earrings valued at $175 and a set of gold earrings valued at $30, the report said.
She said she received an alert from one of her two credit card companies that one of the stolen cards had been used in Pooler on Tuesday.
The deputy spoke with the resort’s staff about which housekeeper had been in the room and collected DNA evidence at the scene. No arrests were noted in the report.
