Stuck in the mud: family of five rescued before nightfall

A boat trip turned awry for a family of five when the group got stuck on a mudflat off the Broad River boat landing early Friday evening, according to a Burton Fire District news release.

Three Beaufort County emergency agencies — Burton firefighters, Beaufort Marine Rescue and the Parris Island Fire Department — arrived with water rescue equipment to save the three adults and two children.

No injuries were reported, according to the release.
