Bluffton woman pleads guilty in fatal DUI crash
A Bluffton woman pleaded guilty to charges following a deadly DUI crash that killed her passenger, a Bluffton man, in Virginia this spring.
Peggy S. Ford, 63, of Bluffton, pleaded guilty last week to one felony count of DUI manslaughter in the death of George H. Bridges, 48, the Amherst New-Era Progress reports.
Bridges was a passenger in the box truck driven by Ford that crashed on May 3, according to the newspaper. The truck loaded with furniture ran off the left side of the road and overturned on U.S. 29 in Amherst County, Va., according to state police.
Ford was wearing a seat belt, but Bridges was not, according to police reports. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ford is set to appear in court in January for sentencing, the Amherst New-Era Progress reports.
