Driver in Hilton Head Island car chase didn’t manage to stay on the road
A Hilton Head Island car chase came to an abrupt end when the suspect crashed into a fence and a tree around 11 p.m. on Thursday.
A deputy tried to pull over a Toyota Avalon for speeding down William Hilton Parkway, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. The driver sped up and led a chase down Northridge Drive, Palmetto Parkway and Mathews Drive before the deputy lost sight of it near Beach City Road and eventually found the car crashed on Fish Haul Road.
Inside the car, deputies found a shotgun, spent shell casings and a pistol magazine, according to the report. The car’s occupant or occupants had left the crash scene by the time deputies arrived.
