Burton man Tased, arrested in connection with shots fired at Beaufort apartments

A Burton man faces several charges in connection with shots fired at a Beaufort apartment complex Thursday.

Beaufort Police officers near Spanish Trace Apartments on Southside Boulevard heard gunshots about 9:30 p.m. and saw a man standing beside one of the apartment buildings, Beaufort Police Investigator Stephanie Karafa said.. The man ignored commands from officers and ran toward the front of the building.

Officers saw a gun during the chase and used a Taser during the arrest. A gun was found on the ground nearby, police said.

Rashem Rivers, 30, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, cocaine possession, resisting arrest, fleeing to evade and public disorderly conduct.

Rivers was booked at Beaufort County Detention Center late Thursday and is being held on $10,000 bond on each the weapons charge and drug charge and $5,000 bond on the resisting arrest charge, jail records show. Rivers has no attorney listed on court records.

Nobody was hurt during the incident, Karafa said.
