Man reports being robbed at gunpoint on Hilton Head

A man reported being robbed at gunpoint by two unidentified males early Wednesday morning on Hilton Head Island.

The victim told a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputy he was riding his bicycle to Walmart around 3:15 a.m. when he turned onto Wilborn Road from School Road, according to a Sheriff’s Office report. The victim said he was approached by two men - one African American male and the other Hispanic male - who knocked him from his bicycle. The African American suspect then allegedly pointed a semi-automatic handgun at him and demanded money, the report said.

The victim showed the men his wallet, which was empty, and the two then told him to hand over his jacket, cell phone, headphones and watch, the report said. The items had a combined value of $730, the report said. As the victim handed over the items, the African American man continued to point the gun at the center of his head and “kept telling him not to look at him,” the report said.

After the items were taken, the victim ran to the back parking lot of the Island Lutheran Church on Main Street where he heard a gunshot behind him, the report said.

He approached a vehicle with people inside and yelled “I have been robbed,” before he heard a second gunshot, the report said. The vehicle then left the parking lot, the report said.

The victim ran until he felt it was safe to cross William Hilton Parkway to Walmart where he contacted law enforcement, the release said.
