Suspicious bag at Hilton Head eatery yields knives, pills, weed - and a small ax

A Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputy found more than he expected while responding to a report of a suspicious bag located at a Hilton Head Island restaurant.

The bag was reported around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Southwood Park Drive Dunkin Donuts, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

A deputy found the bag partially open with a gray T-shirt, traffic vest and a mug and stickers inside.

The deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana, the report said, and opened the bag further to find three small white pills, two knives, two multi-tools, a small ax, suspected marijuana and 54 cents.

The owner of the bag was not located.
