St. Helena shooting leaves victim wounded

A man is being treated for a gunshot wound to the hand after the car he was driving was fired on on St. Helena Island Sunday night, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The victim reported being shot around 10 p.m. on Edding White Road, according to the release. He told deputies that as a vehicle passed him headed in the opposite direction, one of the occupants fired a shot. The victim and his vehicle appeared to be wounded by bird shot from a shotgun, the release said.

The victim was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital and then transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment.

The victim was unable to give deputies a description of the vehicle.

Anyone with information about the shooting can contact Sgt. Andrew Rice at 843-255-3429 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
