Guscio: How two ‘stars’ made Bluffton brighter

The stars above Bluffton will shine brighter at night.

Beverly and George Simoneaux, who recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary, have left for their heavenly home. The much loved couple died within weeks of each other.

They left a wonderful legacy of family values, love and fun times shared with many of us. They were both part of the "old" Bluffton many of us think of with great affection. Love to the Simoneaux Family.

Heritage brought a special magic

The Masters Golf Tournament is such a wonderful event. If you were in attendance in Augusta or watched it on the telly, you know how tricky the game can be.

Now we are in the midst of our fabled Heritage Tournament and what a treat it will be to watch it unfold.

Tea on the Titanic

The Bluffton Historical Preservation Society invites you to a fun afternoon of “tea on the Titanic” from 3 to 5 p.m. April 22 at the Rotary Community Center.

Kim Poovey, a well-known local author, will recount the last few hours aboard the fated trip. The tea will be catered by the fabulous Bess Soper. Tickets are $25 each and reservations may be had by calling 843-757-6293.

Boat show to dock at Windmill Harbour

The 12th annual In-Water Boat Show will be held April 22-24 at Windmill Harbour Marina.

There will be over 60 boats and watercraft on display, kayak and paddleboard trials, nautical lifestyle vendors and delicious food for sale.

The opening ceremonies are at noon Saturday with a cannon salute.

Tickets are $25 for the 3 day event, single tickets are $15 and children under 12 are free.

Spartina 449 expands to Savannah

Spartina 449, whose flagship store is on Calhoun Street in Old Town, has spread it’s beautiful wings to Broughton Street in historic Savannah.

While many of us think their stores could not get any more gorgeous, Spartina 449 has knocked the ball out of the park with the newest addition.

The opening ceremony for the store in Savannah is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21. So shop til you drop at the Bluffton Farmers’ Market then head over to Savannah for the fun. There will be a raffle giveaway, light hors d'oeuvres and beverages.

Speaking of the Bluffton Farmers’ Market, the produce is getting more beautiful by the week.

The local vegetables are coming in and they are so wonderful. If you have never been to the market, please give it a try. There is now a trolley shuttle that runs from Bluffton Village to downtown Bluffton and back every thirty minutes. I think it would be fun just to hop on the trolley for the worry free trip with no parking worries.

The Pearl opens on Calhoun Street

The Pearl, the newest eatery on Calhoun Street, has just opened and it is lovely. The food is superb as is the service. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. It is a true pleasure to dine there.

For the moment, only supper is offered with plans soon for lunch daily and brunch service on Sunday.

Past sails into the present

Ahoy maties!

The Spanish galleon will return to Port Royal Sound April 23-April 30 to commemorate the 450 years since the founding of Santa Elena.

This is a floating museum the whole family will love.

The docking location is at 11th Street in Port Royal, SC.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 5-11 with children under 5 free. Go to www.Santa-Elena.org or call 843-379-1550 for information.

Step out with a friend or dog

Now is the time of year to enjoy taking a walk.

The weather is wonderful and for the moment, no creatures to nibble on us.

Take a walk with a person who is very different from you. Walk with a grandchild, a grandparent, someone who knows plants well and loves to garden, Nedra Brown for example. Take your dog to the park.

You could very well learn something and get much enjoyment out of your time well spent as will those who shared the moment with you.

I know the dog will probably stop to sniff everything it comes across but what the heck.
