Guscio: Salmon -- You can now eat it and keep your money in it
I found a great present for the person who has everything.
There must be lots of these people around because I always hear someone say 'I don't know what to get them. He (or she) has everything."
I bet most of them don't have a salmon skin wallet. This is very interesting to me because of a friend who works as a fishing guide and takes groups every year to fish for salmon in Alaska. Catherine Harrison -- Bluffton's own fishing , hunting, boating guru -- is very much sought after for this annual trip taken by serious outdoorsmen.
Salmon skins are unique and one of a kind. The skins are a by product of the wild salmon fishing industry and are usually thrown away. Someone must have though "why throw them away when we might be able to recycle them into something usable."
The skins are tanned using a vegetable oil-based process, which takes three weeks and makes them waterproof and durable.
The wallets go through 75 steps in the manufacturing process and are all made by hand in the United States.
Very clever thinking I must say. You can eat the salmon and keep it in your pocket, too.
To find these wallets and more Alaskan crafts go to www.fishcreekalaska.com.
I need to ask Catherine if she has one.
WEAR YOUR PHONE
Since I am on the subject of unusual things, how about an iThigh?
The iThigh evolved on the red carpets of Hollywood.
We all know people who won't go anywhere without their telephones.
Now, they don't have to.
Just like Spanx calms " muffin tops," iThighs have calmed many unable to exist without a text, tweet or twitter.
The iThigh creation is a wearable, very pretty garter belt made to hold a phone securely. It is practical, sexy , delicate and allows you to stylishly wear your phone wherever you may roam.
Mary Margaret McGaughey, Anna Pepper Hewitt and Emily Burden take note: this could be a best seller at your boutiques and they come in ten colors.
