McCracken SIC named state finalist

The School Improvement Council at H.E. McCracken Middle School in Bluffton is one of five finalists for the 2016 Dick and Tunky Riley Award, a statewide honor that recognizes SIC accomplishments in parent and civic engagement within school communities.

Named for the former S.C. governor and U.S. secretary of education and his late wife, the Riley Award was created in 2002 to recognize contributions made by the 15,000-plus local council members who volunteer in the state’s 1,100-plus public schools.

In addition to McCracken in the Beaufort County School District, the other four finalists are Ebinport Elementary SIC in Rock Hill District 3, Jennie Moore Elementary SIC and Laing Middle School of Science & Technology SIC in Charleston County, and South Florence High SIC in Florence District 1.

The winner will be announced March 19.
