All of us who know and love Pressly Hall Giltner know that Pressly’s family, the Halls, are always doing something interesting and fun. Pressly’s brother Tom Hall and his friend Elizabeth Conger have begun a very worthwhile project.

In 1930, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Pulitzer Prize winner Julia Peterkin built a school for Black children in Fort Motte, South Carolina ... Lang Syne School. The two ladies were determined to make a difference, and they did what was impossible to many in a time of great need.

Years passed and the school lay in limbo and neglect ... forgotten by many.

Now the duo Tom and Elizabeth have started a fundraiser to bring the historical school back to life.

If you are interested in history and would like to help with a monetary donation, look up Lang Syne School on Facebook and learn more about the story.

Charming books

I was recently reminded about the author Robert Lawson an award-winning author of children’s books. Mr. Lawson was the recipient of both the Newbery and Caldecott medals. My two favorite books of his are “Ben and Me: An Astonishing Life of Benjamin Franklin By His Good Mouse Amos” and “Mr. Revere and I: Being an Account of Certain Episodes in the Career of Paul Revere, Esq., as Revealed by His Horse.”

These two books are charming and filled with true historical facts. Benjamin Franklin got his best ideas from a mouse named Amos and Paul Revere did not make his famous midnight ride alone. Children I think 9 or 10 years old will love to read about the two animals who helped forge history .... as will you. You can order the books from Amazon and have them in hand in two or three days.

Go ‘flexitarian’

Are you a “flexitarian” ... a person who is trying to reduce your meat consumption?

Several companies are working to help us by combining various meats with grains and vegetables. To find out more go to misfitfoods.com, eatseemore.com, applegate.com and tetonwatersranch.com.

Eat Me Cookies

Beth and Maddie Barnett are two sisters who were living in New York City where both had fun and interesting careers dealing with the public.

Suddenly, just like many others, their jobs were snuffed out by that dreaded virus. The two sisters left New York and moved to Bluffton to live in Belfair with their parents while trying to decide what the future would hold.

Many days were spent brainstorming and wondering what to do.

Well, after days spent in the kitchen ... they both love to cook ... Beth and Maddie have embarked on a new venture: “Eat Me Cookies.”

The cookies are delicious and come with funny phrases made of icing that can be custom made and shipped anywhere. The sisters are moving to Charleston where they will have their headquarters. You can go to “Eat Me Cookies” on the internet to order.
