Whodunnit? How could Nancy Drew be 90? Could Bluffton have a gospel sing again?

Finally able to dine out, literally, at The Bluffton Room ... what a treat.

I cannot believe Nancy Drew is 90 years old.

I discovered, as did many of my friends, those wonderful books when I was in the fifth grade. I read most of them in a day, and when I was through with one I could not wait to lay my hands on another.

After I had polished them all off, I searched for another fun escape. It took a while to find other fun books because at school we were stuck with Charles Dickens, Shakespeare ... many other authors who had labored over their writings just for me, ha ha.

Then one day I discovered Ian Fleming and his delightful James Bond ”shaken not stirred” and it was curtains for anything other than Bond ... James Bond.

What fun these novels were to read. I could finish reading them in one sitting too. Neither of these authors are on the library lists at any school that I know of, but maybe they should be. They are a great escape. Probably why they aren’t ... it would interfere with reading, writing and arithmetic.

Wynton and Mr. Rogers

Speaking of escapes, I turned on the television to watch something on PBS and lo and behold there was Mr. Rogers with Wynton Marsalis discussing jazz.

Mr. Rogers was snapping his fingers while Wynton was playing the piano and it was such a charming scene ... what a calming voice Mr. Rogers had. I look forward to seeing the movie about him starring Tom Hanks.

Homeschooling

I learned a very interesting thing by listening to homeschooling one day. It is about shapes of things, and the ideas behind them are fascinating.

One I particularly like is the octagon. Two shapes coming together as one, which is the circle and the square. The circle represents heaven and the square represents earth ... which unifies these two energies through an infinite connection, which I found very cool.

Gospel sing

Another fun thing on my list for the town to do is sponsor a gospel sing at the Oyster Factory Park one early evening in July. We have had these before at the Heyward House and they are so enjoyable with old hymns like “Joshua at the Battle of Jericho.”

Everyone bring a picnic and Larry and Tina Toomer could sell beer and soft drinks. Might be a grand celebration if we get out of the virus’ grip. We would be outside and not closed up.

When I was little I was very fearful of the imaginary big bad wolf that lived under my bed. Now that I am grown I still have fear of the invisible wolf, only now I know he can really harm all of us ... dagnabbit.
