Help your neighbor, and celebrate creativity, camellias, seafood in SC Lowcountry
You are invited a fundraiser for Elizabeth Bowen called “A Home of Our Own” to be held Saturday, Feb. 29, from noon until 5 p.m. at Southern Barrel Brewing Company in Bluffton.
Elizabeth, who has Ataxia, has embarked on an “independence project” and needs our help to make this possible. Southern Barrel will donate 10 percent of the afternoon’s proceeds to the fund.
Feb. 29 is also “Rare Disease Day.”
Creative couple
Amy and Lukejohn Dickson, owners of LaSource Home, an award-winning kitchen and bath design firm, and Plantation Interiors, one of the oldest interior design firms on Hilton Head Island, have a passion for design and beautiful products.
On a recent cover of the magazine South, the couple is pictured in a beautiful kitchen they created for clients at Stock Farm in historic Old Town Bluffton.
Amy, a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design, grew up in Bluffton and for a short time after she graduated from SCAD helped me at my store. I am thrilled for the fabulous couple who have worked hard and found their creative path in life.
Camellia time at Middleton
Middleton Place has over 10,000 camellia plants on its property, some over 220 years old. The plants bloom during the cold part of winter, with thousands of blooms vying to outdo each other in varying hues of red and pink and pristine white.
Through March 14, Camellia Walks are held every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 11 a.m. and last about an hour and a half.
In addition, special camellia items will be for sale in the Museum Shop and Garden Market throughout the blooming season, including plants propagated at Middleton Place.
The plants would be a marvelous present for a special someone.
