5 things you need to know about the 60th annual Beaufort Water Festival
From Friday to July 26, Beaufort's Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park will be filled daily with art, music and all kinds of fun activities.
Here are five things you should know about the 60th Annual Beaufort Water Festival:
1. CONCERT IN THE PARK
Country singer Neal McCoy, who's had No. 1 singles and whose 1993 album "No Doubt About It" went platinum, will headline Saturday's Concert in the Park.
Opening act and S.C. native Austin Webb is scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. Gates open at 7 p.m.
McCoy's hits include "No Doubt About It," "Wink," "That's Life" and "Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On."
Webb grew up in Greenville and began writing songs at 16. Country Weekly named him "One to Watch in 2013."
Admission: $25; children under 5 free.
2. FIREWORKS FRIDAY
The 10-day festival gets a patriotic kickoff Friday with the Parris Island Marine Band. Gates open at 6 p.m. The ceremony starts at 7 p.m. Fireworks at dusk.
3. COMMODORE'S FAVORITES
Festival Commodore Bill Damude said he is bringing back some old traditions and spicing up the entertainment.
Tuesday night's theme has been changed from "Salsa Tuesday" to "Time Warp Tuesday." Bands will play music from the '60s and '70s, which Damude hopes will get people excited about dancing in the park.
Damude has also brought back the Gatorland Ski Show, which will be at 2 p.m. Saturday.
And the air show has been moved from the first weekend to the final day, July 26, to try to attract more people to attend the festival's conclusion. It will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
