Marine Corps vets pen Parris Island history
Two Marine Corps veterans have published a new book about Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island.
Eugene Alvarez, a former drill instructor, and Leo Daugherty, a retired master sergeant, have titled their book “Parris Island: the Cradle of the Corps, A History of the United State Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island South Carolina, 1562-2015,” according to a news release they issued.
The book focuses on the transfer of Parris Island to the Marine Corps in October 1915 for use as a recruit training depot, and the development of the island and recruit training.
