National Wreaths Across America Day coming up Dec. 12

Volunteers with two national organizations whose mission is to honor veterans will be laying wreaths at area cemeteries Dec. 12.

Wreaths Across America will hold wreath layings at Arlington National Cemetery as well as at veterans' cemeteries in all 50 states, at sea and at 24 national cemeteries on foreign soil.

In addition, members of the Patriot Guard Riders will assist in escorting the wreaths as they travel to Beaufort County via truck convoy and will coordinate activities at the Beaufort National Cemetery, according to a news release.

For those who wish to participate in the escorted ride, the following locations have been identified as staging areas.

-- Riders coming from the Charleston County area should meet at 8:45-9:10 a.m. at the Hardee's at U.S. Highway 17 and Highway 165, in Ravenel, with plans to depart at 9:15 a.m.

-- Riders coming from the Beaufort County area should meet at 9-9:20 a.m. at the U.S. Military Veterans Clubhouse, 45 Laurel Bay Road, in Beaufort, with plans to depart at 9:20 a.m.

Riders will then meet the convoy at the truck stop at U.S. Highway 17 and Highway 64 in Jacksonboro at 10:20 a.m. for the ride to Beaufort.

Those wanting to go directly to the cemetery at 1601 Boundary St. in Beaufort, should arrive no later than 11:30 a.m.

The ceremony is at noon.
