Highway marker rededication ceremony set

The Lady's Island Garden Club will hold a rededication ceremony for its Blue Star Memorial Highway marker at 11 a.m. Friday at the Judith Haskell Brewer Park on Sea Island Parkway next to the Lady's Island Boat Landing.

The Blue Star Memorial Program began after World War II when garden clubs wished to honor the men and women who fought.

The Lady's Island marker was originally placed at the Lady's Island/St.Helena Fire Station on Highway 21 and dedicated on May 9, 1986. It was the first installed in Beaufort County, the garden club says. The marker was refurbished and a rededication ceremony was held on March 16, 2001. When the fire station relocated to Lady's Island Drive, the marker was moved to its present location.
