Port Royal parade to celebrate Parris Island's Centennial on Saturday
A parade celebrating the Parris Island Centennial will start at 11 a.m. Saturday in Port Royal.
Sponsored by the Parris Island Historical and Museum Society, the parade will feature the society's "Living History Detachment," classic cars, members of various veterans' groups and other military units.
The parade route will follow Edinburgh Avenue, then move down Ribaut Road and Paris Island Road, and end at The Shed at 809 Paris Ave.
After the parade, the society's new documentary, "Parris Island: 100 Years of Making Marines," will be shown at 12:15 p.m., 1:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. at The Shed.
The film screenings are free. Viewers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
