Community mourns the loss of Hannah Collins, 11, after brain infection

A routine river outing turned to tragedy after a young girl contracted a brain-eating amoeba.

Readers of The Island Packet & Beaufort Gazette were quick to offer their support and condolences to the friends and family of young Hannah Collins, who lost her battle Friday.

Hannah, 11, was a student at Riverview Charter School in Shell Point and her battle touched many within the community.
