Sheriff’s Office: Beaufort man allegedly threw drugs from stolen moped
A 23-year-old Beaufort man was found driving a stolen moped and trying to dispose of crack and powdered cocaine on Friday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
Devandre James faces charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of crack cocaine and receiving stolen goods, according to the Sheriff’s Office report. He is being held in Beaufort County Detention Center. The incident occurred about 3:30 a.m. on Friday on Trask Parkway near Shanklin Road, the report said.
A Sheriff’s Office deputy on patrol saw a yellow moped that matched the description of one reported stolen earlier that morning, the report said. As the deputy attempted to stop the moped, James allegedly threw an orange pill bottle to the side of the road, which the deputy retrieved. The bottle contained 3.6 grams of cocaine and 0.6 grams of crack, according to the report.
The moped was subsequently returned to the owner, the report said.
