Firefighters save entrapped driver after 3-car crash

Firefighters saved an entrapped driver from a three-car crash on Sunday morning on Ribaut Road.

City of Beaufort/Town of Port Royal Fire Department and Burton Fire District firefighters responded to the crash at the foot of Bell Bridge around 7 a.m., Lt. Ross Vezin with the Beaufort Fire Department said. The entrapped driver was rescued within 15 minutes, and firefighters remained on the scene for about 45 minutes, Vezin said.

Both northbound lanes and one of the southbound lanes were temporarily closed while emergency responders worked. All lanes are now open.

Two people were taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Vezin said.
