A wreck involving a car and a small truck in Port Royal sent two to the hospital Saturday, according to a Burton Fire District news release.

Firefighters arrived just after 10:30 a.m. to the Parris Island Gateway scene, and the car’s two occupants were taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, the release said.

Traffic on Parris Island Gateway was slowed for about a half hour while emergency crews assisted the injured and cleared the roadway.

This was the second serious wreck Burton firefighters handled in less than a day. A driver was seriously injured in a single-vehicle wreck on Savannah Highway Friday night.

The Burton Fire District has responded to more than 160 wrecks so far this year, more than 30 of which were on Parris Island Gateway.
