Kayakers rescued from mud on bank of Beaufort River
Two kayakers stuck in pluff mud on the bank of the Beaufort River were rescued on Saturday, according to a report from the Beaufort Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to a call at 10:15 a.m. Saturday near the 2100 block of Bay Street. Capt. Lawrence DeLoach, the incident commander, told the kayakers via cellphone to stay in their kayaks while awaiting help from the Marine Rescue Squadron in an airboat.
One of the kayakers sustained a minor injury. One rescuer was placed in a sling for a hurt wrist but was not transported to a hospital.
