Man robs Yemassee Family Dollar at gunpoint, takes cash, cigarettes

Yemassee Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at the Family Dollar on Yemassee Highway around 11 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect is a black male, possibly in his mid-40s, about 160 pounds and 5 feet 7 inches or 5 feet 8 inches, wearing dark clothing and a black hat, Yemassee Police Department Chief of Police Greg Alexander said.

The suspect took an undetermined about of cash and some cigarettes while armed with a black semi-automatic pistol, Alexander said.

He fled on foot with a blue and gray backpack, according to Alexander.

The store’s surveillance footage captured an image of the suspect, which the department is using to help identify him.
