Beaufort to start work on eastern side of Boundary Street
As work wraps up on the western side of Boundary Street in Beaufort, the city is getting ready to work on the eastern side.
The power and phone cables are going to be moved from the poles to underground duct banks, according to a city news release.
This is expected to be more aesthetically pleasing for residents and visitors, the release said. Additionally, moving to underground power lines “eliminates fire hazards, accidents and safety risks from downed electricity lines.” It should also protect against weather-related problems that often plague power troubles, the release said.
The city’s tentative timeline for the entire Boundary Street project suggests duct bank work will stretch through February.
