In Beaufort, new Cadillac + speed test = jail stay
What’s the point of having a fast car if you don’t know how fast it will go?
That was the question a 54-year-old Seabrook man was apparently trying to answer when he was caught going 103 mph in a 60 mph zone Saturday on Trask Parkway in Beaufort, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
When deputies pulled him over near Big Road, the driver told them he was “just testing his car out,” according to the report.
The white Cadillac changed lanes a couple of times as deputies tried to catch up, the report said.
“At the time of day and the amount of traffic, the driver was clearly driving recklessly with no regard for the other drivers on the road,” it said.
The driver was charged with reckless driving and driving with an expired registration. After deputies said they found pot in the car and in the driver’s pockets, he was also charged with simple possession of marijuana, according to the report. All of the charges are misdemeanors.
He was taken to Beaufort County Detention Center where he spent the night and released the following day.
